Roa
2016
Synopsis
Set in Bogotá in the late 40s, ROA is a fictional story based on real events, which focuses on Juan Roa Sierra (Mauricio Puentes), alleged murderer of politician and lawyer Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, whose death triggered the sad hours of "the Bogotazo", the event that changed the history of the Colombian capital and initiated the period known as "La Violencia".
Roa (Mauritius Bridges) is a naive and superstitious man, an idealist without a stable job and a family to feed. Tired of searching for a job and convinced that he was born for great things, he visits Gaitán (Santiago Rodríguez), his idol, in search of help. But his hopes quickly collapse after that meeting, in which the politician treats him with disdain.
Thus, his former idol becomes his enemy and Roa begins to plot a naive plan to kill him. Overcome by the fear of being discovered, Roa abandons his crazy ideas and straightens himself up. However, when everything seems to improve, fate plays a trick: mysterious men, who have seen him monitoring Gaitán, threaten to kill his entire family if he doesn´t goe through with his criminal plan.
The explosion of anger of the people, which swept much of Bogotá and spread throughout the country, led Colombia to a period of ruthless violence, which lasted for a decade, its effects continuing to be felt to this day. Amidst the undeniable history, Juan Roa Sierra is part of a mystery. Did he act on his own or was he a participant in a plot?
