ZAMA (2017)

SYNOPSIS

At the end of the 18th century, Zama, an American official of the Spanish Crown in the Gran Chaco, awaits a letter from the King transferring him to a better destination.

His situation is delicate. He must ensure that nothing jeopardizes that possibility. He is forced to submissively accept any task assigned to him by the Governors who succeed him while he remains. Of course, the King's letter never arrives, and when Zama realizes that he has lost everything while waiting, he decides to join a party of soldiers in search of a dangerous bandit. Perhaps his name will thus reach the King's ears. Zama sets off for distant lands populated by wild Indians. But the bandit being pursued turns out to be one of his soldiers. Zama is taken prisoner and sentenced. Now free of his hopes of transfer and promotion, knowing his life is in danger, he discovers that all he wants is this: TO LIVE.
